El Prez
- (Pacific Beach)
- San Diego CA -
El Prez, 4190 Mission Boulevard, San Diego CA, 92109,
Have you ever wondered how The Wood became El Prez, San Diego’s premiere fiesta spot to frequent along the boardwalk? No? Well, we’re going to tell you anyway…
If you have any interest in history, you already know [+]that Abraham Lincoln was a very vocal opponent of the Mexican-American War. Mexico later honored Lincoln by creating a statue in his likeness. As it turns out, we’re also big fans of Abraham Lincoln!… And tequila. And tacos. And beer. And sunsets. Since we couldn’t build a statue in honor of “Honest Abeâ€, we were left with no choice but to open the best rooftop bar in Pacific Beach and combine all of our passions into one awesome location!
Our rooftop overlooks Pacific Beach. Our gourmet tacos are made with fresh, local ingredients and served in house-made tortillas. Our bar features a large selection of tequilas, with 18 beers on tap. We have 24 HD TVs and a giant projection screen. There’s no place on the boardwalk like us. Our bar was built on the concept of Dia de los Muertos. Combine all of these elements, and El Prez is where to drink, where to eat and where to party in San Diego!
Nicos Mexican Food
- (Ocean Beach)
- San Diego CA -
Nico's Mexican Food, 4918 Newport Ave, San Diego CA, 92107
Nico’s Mexican Food has been serving the San Diego Ocean Beach community with fresh, delicious, and authentic Mexican food since 1982. Started by Nicolas “Nico†Carreon and his wife Catalina over 36 years ago, Nico’s has been a family [+]operation since the beginning. Due to limited means, the entire Carreon family participated in running Nico’s, building it into what is now a locals and San Diego visitor favorite in Ocean Beach.
Today, Nico’s son Jose Carreon owns and operates Nico’s and continuing to work at the family business as he did when he was a child. Ocean Beach residents still talk about Nicolas and his iconic cowboy hat. Nicolas was known for his hat and it still resides at the restaurant in a display case over the register. Jose keeps the hat on display as a constant reminder of the hard work, dedication, and sacrifice his father made to build Nico’s into the great Mexican food restaurant it is today.

Mamma Mia
- (Pacific Beach)
- San Diego CA -
Mamma Mia Italian Restaurant, 1932 Balboa Avenue CA, 92109,
Mamma Mia is an Italian Restaurant located in Pacific Beach, a hip beach town in San Diego. The dishes at Mamma Mia follow the traditional Mediterranean diet full of variety, both light and healthy, and complete with fresh vegetables, [+]olive oil, meat, fish, and red wine.
The menu has perfect choices for events ranging from a great date night dinner,
a quick meal with friends to a full Italian mouth-watering culinary celebration.
Our specialty At Mamma Mia, you will be delighted by the daily made gnocchi. Part of the reason for these mouthwatering gnocchi is, believe it or not, the potatoes! Since American potatoes have more natural starch than in Italy, you need less flour to make the gnocchi. Therefore, you will find the best gnocchi not in Italy, but here at Mamma Mia!
Beside the gnocchi, Mamma Mia’s pizza is not only delicious but also light! In fact, you could be eating a great, Italian-style pizza with only under 800 calories (ask Cinzia or her staff for more information).
Hodad's
- (Ocean Beach)
- San Diego CA -
Hodad's Ocean Beach CA
hodad noun - a nonsurfer who spends time at beaches masquerading as a surfer.
In 1969, Byron and Virginia Hardin began serving their AMAZING Burgers in San Diego. Hodad’s first location was on the beach, at the end of Santa Monica Ave., in Ocean [+]Beach.
In 1991, after several moves, Hodad’s opened at it’s present location on Ocean Beach’s main drag, Newport Avenue. In 2011 we opened our second location at 10th & Broadway in beautiful downtown San Diego.
We expanded into Petco Park in 2012, when we opened a seasonal spot for all of the San Diego Padres Baseball Fans. It’s been so popular, that space was eventually traded up for several concession locations throughout the park
We extend our thank you to the hungry fans that have made all of this possible.
Hodad’s is now in the hands of third generation family members, Shane & Lexi Hardin. They’re the adult children of the famous Burgermeister, Mike “Bossman†Hardin.
Mike was at the helm of this seaside burger joint when it rocketed to stardom. It was Mike’s heart that kept the whole team sane as they went from a local’s favorite shack to a relentlessly busy hub for Burger lovers from around the world. He was surfer, a businessman, a joker, a philosopher and great Dad. He was a friend to anyone whoever met him and did his best to make life better for America’s Military as a member of the MESS LORDS! [-] Categories:

In 1992, we opened our current location on Convoy St., offering an extensive menu featuring authentic Vietnamese food. Only the freshest ingredients are used, and quality is never compromised. Most items are served with a generous assortment of fresh vegetables and herbs. Being one of the healthiest foods around, Vietnamese cooking has quickly become popular with guests of all ages. Konos Cafe
- (Pacific Beach)
- San Diego CA -
Konos Cafe, 704 Garnet Ave, San Diego CA, 92109, Restaurant Phone 858-483-1669
Kono's Cafe opened in July of 1991. Kathy and Steve, who previously owned Lamont Street Grill, decided to open a new daytime restaurant more suited to their second job as parents. The concept started with the unbeatable [+]location by Crystal Pier. They wanted to draw families and tourists to an area more known for its biker bars. Inspired by a small eatery in Ensenada, they intended to open a Mexican restaurant that offered cone shaped tacos, giving Kono's its name.
The opportunity to open their new restaurant came before they were able to start renovations on the historic building, built in the 1920's. In the meantime, they decided to keep it simple with classic American fare with a few Southern California twists. The idea for egg burritos, a rarity at the time, came from summers in Baja where they would have fresh tortillas with every meal, including breakfast.
By the time they were able to start renovations, it seemed their simple concept had struck a chord - especially with the local surfers, who were the first Kono's regulars. Many of their ideas made their way into the menu. Working with Jim of Crystal Pier, Kono's expanded its operation and the area began to thrive, becoming what it is today.

Pizza Port Brewing Company, Ocean Beach CA
In March of 1987 Gina and Vince Marsaglia, a pair of siblings in their 20′s, bought a struggling pizza place in the sleepy coastal town of Solana Beach, just north of San Diego. Early on, Vince took advantage of free space in [+]the restaurant’s storage area to dabble with home brewing. The hobby took off and at the urging of friends and fans, Vince and Gina decided to go into the brewpub business. Pizza Port offered its first craft-brewed beers to patrons in 1992 and quickly gained a reputation in San Diego’s growing craft beer scene.
Following their success at the Solana Beach location the company has been steadily expanding. Location #2 opened in 1997 in Carlsbad. Location #3 opened in 2003 in San Clemente. In 2008 a premium bottle shop was added adjacent to the Carlsbad location, which offers hundreds of options from other breweries in the craft beer community. Pizza Port location #4 opened in 2010 in Ocean Beach. And, most recently, location #5 opened in 2013 in the Bressi Ranch community of Carlsbad, and introduced a canning line to allow Pizza Port beers to find their home on store shelves across San Diego county!
So far, the Pizza Port locations collectively have won over 91 medals/awards from the Great American Beer Festival, and we continue to encourage our brewers to create unique and award winning beers. Our entire crew works hard to provide the best guest experience possible, all while having a great time!
While we don’t know entirely what’s next for us, we want to continue to brew great beer, make great pizzas, and make new friends. Through all the growth and changes we have seen over the past 30 years, what continues to drive our passion and our mantra still rings true, so cheers to that! [-] Categories:
